I was so happy I made it to this trip. I have always wanted to see the famous Terracotta Warriors, it was amazing.

Other sight seeing I enjoyed in Xi'an. Had to wake up really early to catch the early show / performance inside the great wall of Xi'an. :-) Reached the top of the wall tired and gasping for air, it felt like thousand of steps to reach the top plus it was summer time and it was so hot.

We spent so much time shopping. Made in China products. Shopping was not part of my "things to do in Xian" list. All I wanted to do -> sight seeing and eat Chinese food. I was the only girl in the group; I was with my dad, 2 uncles and my cousin who is a boy. Funny, the only girl in the group was not interested in shopping but the boys were like girls spending so much time and money on shopping. :-) hmmmm.... I did buy some stuff when we were at the shopping place; a hat, luggage and some souvenirs. And I found this vintage camera that I have always wanted to buy since 2006, I saw a lot of it in Saigon. I ended up not buying it coz the person selling it couldnt guarantee the condition of the camera, yeah she says its in good condition, like i'll believe her. No offense but the camera did look really old and rusty - that couldnt be possibly working. :-)

I saw this tiny little girl who is wearing a black tu-tu and she was like complaining to her mom because it was sooo hot that day. Her mom let her carry the umbrella by herself. Major cuteness!

Interesting man... He was about to hit me though. He looks like he's a bit absent minded.

This is a story of 4 girls who desperately needs to escape from the heat of Singapore. Just being spontaneous... took a 10 hours bus ride from Singapore to Cameron Highlands. Two full days up in Cameron, without a plan (which made it more fun), was enough to recharge ourselves.

Visited farms, tea plantation, plucked strawberries, etc - stuff that I wouldn't normally enjoy because I lived in a farm, I grew up in a farm but anyway I ended up having fun.

Walk along the mossy forest... it was... well, mossy. :-)

What I loved about this trip was the sunrise. Watching the sun rise was just amazing. If I was watching it alone I wouldnt probably shed a tear. It was just so emotional, I can't help it.

This is story of a friend who texted me one night to be ready and to sleep early. No details after that message. Next thing I know is that I should wake up at 5:30 in the morning and a car will be waiting for me down stairs. We went to watch the sunrise at Marina Bay. It was so beautiful. Before this trip, I was told to bring light clothes / beach clothes and so I did. When I landed Jeju, I can barely see the road coz the fog was so thick... I'm in big trouble.

Back packing continues....

Reached the airport at around 5-6am, waited for our flight and ate burger king for breakfast.

After Bangkok, my friend Yeng and I went up to Chiang mai.

Chiang Mai sometimes written as "Chiengmai" or "Chiangmai", is the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand, and is the capital of Chiang Mai Province. It is located 700 km (435 mi) north of Bangkok, among the highest mountains in the country. The city is on the Ping River, a major tributary of the Chao Phraya River.

We stayed in Royal Panerai Hotel which is very close to downtown (shopping areas, night life, etc). Its cheap, if I remember it correctly we paid about 20USD per night (off peak). But its not a high class hotel, its an 'okay', old hotel which my friend and I didn't mind because we're out whole day anyway.

According to Tripadvisor the #1 must see attraction in Chiang Mai is the Flight of the Gibbon. All reviews were positive and very exciting. Note: In Feb 2010, when we actually went there, Flight of the Gibbon was #1 but now (as I write this blog), its #12. Im not quite sure why but I still highly recommend this to those who are visiting Chiang Mai.

Basically the concept is to mimic the flight of the gibbon. You will be strapped and zip-line through the jungle, from one tree top to another. Its extremely fun! I'd love to do it again.

Last February 2010, my friend Yeng and I went back packing to Thailand during TET (CNY) holiday in Vietnam. First stop was Bangkok.

Our flight got delayed so I spent about 2 hours taking photos, reading Tuesdays with Morrie and yeah, bullying my friend, Yeng. :-)


This book was given to me by my dear friend, Julio Malantic.

This was my first time to see Bangkok and man oh man the traffic is even worse than Manila. I have never experienced such heavy traffic in my entire life.

I like Bangkok train (MRT) than what we have in Manila.

We stayed at Kuya Nhap's apartment for 2 nights. Thank you Kuya Nhap.

First thing we did was... obviously shopping. Jatujak market was so huge and extremely hot! It was so painful! And yeah, I lost Yeng in Jatujak, spent about an hour looking for each other. teehee.

Latest attraction in Singapore is the universal studios. I think I am the only 27 year old who've been to USS 3 times in less than 6 months. I love theme parks, its a happy and fun place. This coming May, it will be my 4th time. I'll accompany my sisters and cousins. I also heard that the other 2 rides are open, Im so looking forward to this day.

Night life in Singapore, hmmmm, I don't drink and party hard like when I was in Vietnam. I've cut down my alcohol intake by alot when I moved to Singapore. Plus its so expensive to party here. By the time you're drunk, you're also broke.

Usual place where my officemates and I hang out is at Far East Square. Walking distance from our office since we work til late, we de-stress ourselves by hanging out, drinks (white wine for me), people watch, chat, stare at the air (lol), etc.

My favorite lane in Singapore is the Haji Lane. I call this place Artsy Fartsy lane. I like what they are selling, I like the set up, I like the whole package.

When you're working in Singapore, expect one of your Indian officemates will invite you to celebrate Happy Diwali with them.

A three minute walk from my apartment you will Outram MRT station. One station away from where I work, Tangjong Pagar MRT station.

Another 2 minute walk from Outram station, you will reach China Town. Very busy area; shopping, hawker place, etc.

My first time to take a plane from Vigan to Manila. Very beautiful aerial view. My favorite is the Banaoang bridge or the Quirino bridge (3rd photo)

Very small plane, 39 seater propeller plane. Kindah scary as it is small and you can hear the engine roar from outside.

Thank you kuya Mike for making my dream come true. Our stay in Amandari was amazing.
I miss you.

Lotus Cafe, I heard is very famous.

Ah, Kuta Beach, reminds me of Patong beach in Phuket. Very nice, love the seafood.

One friday night, suddenly I craved for a nice, fine and delicious dinner. I ended up eating at a restaurant called Desire. Its delicious but really expensive.

Fresh flower. Found it in the office.

One evening, my officemate, Mic Tan, sent me a message through msn and said "look through the window, the sunset, it looks like the end of the world".

Ultimate COMFORT FOOD. When you're in Singapore, must try. Hot Choco brought back a lot of happy childhood memories.

Stronger Than Ever

Growing up having a different point of view as my parents has its pros and cons. Cons - I made a lot of mistakes that brought disappointment to my family. Pros - it made me push myself to become independent and to become stronger.

I grew up as a rebellious child because I am different. Misunderstood, as most people would say. I always go against the family norm. I want to do things my way but I always get discouraged because the rule is as long as you are living under the roof of your parents, you will do what you are told.

Everyone in the family discouraged me except one, Tito Louie. He never gave me the ‘no-no’ look. I am grateful to have him because he gave me strength to pursue what I want to do.

That was the time when I set my first goal – to break away! In my calendar, November 19, 2006 is my Independence Day! I left my home country!

Frankly, until now my parents are still struggling to understand what I do and what drives me. Ever since I started climbing the corporate ladder, Tito Louie always give me the “go for it” mind-set.

I remember he wrote me an email after graduation when I was hunting for job openings that he feels lucky to be an uncle to me.

August 2008 we lost Tito Louie. Cancer took him. He left us with wonderful words that I will never forget.

I never realized what it meant until I celebrated my 25th birthday in 2009. I realized my life is so gloomy. All I remembered in past 5 years were work related pressure and stress. I worked so hard and ran so fast to achieve my goals but never took a second to savor the moment and to Thank God for what He has given me.

I started to live my life differently though it was a struggle. Journey to find my purpose in life. The journey was painful but at the end its beautiful. I learned how to think and live positively by Thanking God everyday for His blessings.

But the end of the journey is just the beginning.

In 2010, I took another huge step. It was not something I wanted to take but I trusted Him and I know that He has plans for me. I moved to Singapore and this brought me closer to my eldest cousin, Kuya Mike. Before this, I only know few about him based on his mom’s stories like how independent he is and how he found his passion.

There is a huge generation gap between him and I. We didn’t grow up close to each other. Since I started traveling to Singapore in 2006, we catch up over coffee or breakfast. Catching up became frequent when I moved to Singapore for work in April 2010.

Everybody knows he talks a lot. And honestly, he inspires me. I am amazed to how passionate he is and how he loves his job so much. I envy him how happy he is in sharing stories about his work. How can he do that? All I can think about my work is stress and working late hours. I tell my friends and officemates how amazing he is and how I envy him. He is a funny guy and full of life.

In March 2011, Kuya Mike went home to God. He left us with a smile on his face. He lived his life to fullest. He lived his life positively. He was just 38 years old.

Life is short. I am taking another huge step. And I am happy I am doing it. I am so much inspired by my cousin. I wanted to be like him; passionate, love what he does and live life to the fullest.

I am grateful that God made this happen - for me to get closer to Kuya Mike and to be inspired. And also to remind me about my real purpose in life which is not in this world because everything in this world is just temporary.

To Tito Louie and Kuya Mike, I know you guys are up there and looking down at me as I am writing this.

Fun Macau

This is my second trip to Macau, first trip was with my family last Oct 2006 - a day trip to Macau where we visited the ruins of St Paul's Church and the old Portuguese place.

My second trip was not planned. Two days before my 27th birthday, I decided to do something crazy and the first thing I thought of was to bungy jump but I didn't know Macau Tower is the highest in the world. I was having a drink with my friend Joanne when I made my decision and Joanne supported my craziness and so we went.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Hong Kong side then a day trip to Macau. I under estimated the weather in Hong Kong and Macau. Joanne told me that it'll be as cold as Baguio - I wear tshirt and shorts in Baguio so I brought the same set of clothes. Baguio is the summer capital of the Philippines.

When I got out of the plane, I froze. So the first thing I did was to buy jacket and for some reason I ended up buying 3 jackets - not that I need 3 jackets to keep me warm but I sortah kindah liked the design. Now my problem is when to use it - in Singapore is soooo hot.

Anyhu, Macau changed a lot from what I remembered in 2006. Venetian, Lisboa Casino, bungy, etc... weren't there yet.

5 activities I enjoyed in Macau (all these activities happened in one day only)

1. Bungy Jump - Something I would love to do over and over again.

2. Cirque Du Soleil: ZAIA

Fantastic! I have always wanted to see one of these shows. Had goosebumps while watching the whole performance. Stole some shots (video) during the show, click video below.

3. Casino - Cashed out 100HKD, won 300HKD and brought home 0.40HKD. I was playing the slot machine and I guess I was trigger happy - I kept on hitting the button until I realized I only have 40cents left in my account.

4. Shopping at Venetian - Joanne enjoyed this so much. The stores in Venetian are too high end for me. Too expensive for me. Aint my brands too. Oh guess what I ate for lunch in Venetian? Vietnamese Food - fresh spring roll. Yummy.

5. Watching the Gondola pass by along the Venetian lagoon while the gondolier sings operatic songs - This I enjoyed. I enjoyed walking around, taking photos and watching the Gondolier sing.

Spent our last day shopping in Hong Kong. A lot cheaper than in Singapore. I bought 5 pairs of shoes; 4 from Zara and the other from is from H&M. Oh Oh Oh my first time to experience H&M. Amazement! okay fine, its now my favorite store. I bought a lot of accessories from that shop. Its like forever21 but cheaper and more choices.

The whole trip was worth it. Weekend get away!

Flirting with Death, Jumping from the highest bungy in the world.

It was my first time to bungy jump and it is from the highest in the world (Guinness Book of Records). Macau Tower bungy jump is 233 meters high.

Was I frightened? or aroused?

NONE of the ABOVE!

It is January and it is winter in Macau, what do you expect up there? FREEZING COLD!

How is it like to jump from the highest bungy in the world? AMAZEMENT of course! The best experience ever (but I suggest you guys do it during summer period). I want to do it again and again and again, my third jump will be free since I am now a member of AJHackett plus my second jump will be 4 times cheaper.

I was the first to jump that day and a lot of people (tourist) gathered around me, watching me prep and all. I think they were trying to wish me good luck but they all look scared and worried. I did not understand what they were trying to say, as I do not understand Chinese. Maybe one of the old ladies said, “you are soooo stupiiiiiiiid!”

They made one last check before they opened the door (to outside of the tower). I was asked; “are you ready?” and I answered “yeaaaaah!”

When they opened the door, I froze! Strong cold wind hit me like a speeding car paralyzing my whole body. I said to myself, “oooooh shiiit!”

The prep…

A step away from the ledge is a small area to prep the jumpers. I was asked to sit down on top of the table, which is made of metal and there goes my butt, frosted! My fingers were literally turning purple. When Juan (I do not know the name of that guy who put on my straps so let us call him Juan and he is Filipino) was giving me directions and guidelines on how to stand at the ledge, how to lean forward to fall and lastly how to pull the cord. I tried to pay attention but it was so freaking windy and I barely hear him talk. But when he said “pull the cord!” I immediately turned my head and looked at his face and asked, “say what? What do you mean pull the cord?!” Juan said that right after the bungy cord recoils I should pull the cord (actually, it’s a strap) and I should to pull it hard and pull it sideways.

Uuuhhhmmmm?!?!?!

First, I do not think I will remember all these detailed instructions when I am falling from the highest bungy in the world and second, why do I need to pull the cord? Juan answered, “to release your feet”. I replied (shocked!), “e-e-excuse me, say that again? Release my feet? woa-woa-why would I want to do that?”. Juan answered, “so you will not be hanging up-side-down”.

At that point in time, my ability to understand logic was either already flown away or frozen. So Juan and I rehearsed. I did not see what exactly happened after I pulled the cord (because I do not know where to look as I am not paying attention) but I heard a ‘click’ sound and I heard straps detaching from each other. Like I said, I already lost my ability to think so I do not know if I should be scared of that or not. I just said, “okay!” Then Juan instructed Tom, “Okay, She’s ready to go!”.

The Epic Fail and the Epic Fall...

Juan and Tom (I do not know the another guy’s name, he is white so let us call him Tom) assisted me off the table and to the ledge. I did not see the tip of the ledge, I just saw the tip of my shoes. I SAW MYSELF STANDING ON TOP OF THE WORLD! Everything looks really small up there; even the tallest building in Macau looks small. I saw the whole of Macau! If it was not foggy I think I will see Hong Kong and / or China.

These guys were behind me, Tom was at my left side and Juan was at my right side. Juan released the bungy cord and it was pulling my feet off the ledge. Then I sort of panicked, “Wait! The cord is pulling me!” Juan answered, “That is good! It means it is working!” Again, logic! I do not understand! I just said, “Okay!” I grabbed Tom’s hand but he let go.

The count down begun… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… I shouted, “Wait! Wait! Wait!” I did not lean forward after the countdown. I was not ready to fall. I pulled back a bit. I got scared not because of the fall but because I cannot think of anything! I feel pressured to think of something, anything would do! Like shouting “waaaaah!” or sing a song maybe? But nothing, nothing at all, my mind was completely blank and it freaked me out.

These guys helped by instructing me to spread my arms and tilt my head up. (That was fun, all I can see was the sky – “am I in heaven already?”). The second countdown begun… 5… 4… 3…. 2… 1…

When I heard “1”, I lost all my senses except for my sight. I did not feel cold anymore. I cannot hear the strong wind anymore. All that is left is the picture of the sky as a leaned forward… then the sea… then the top of the buildings and then the concrete ground. When I saw the ground getting closer and closer, that was the time all my senses came back. I heard myself screaming so loud.

I love that moment when my mind was completely blank, when my senses were gone, logic was also gone; it was just me, free falling. I love it!

The bungy cord recoiled; I remembered that I need to pull something. When I pulled the strap nothing happened. I tried pulling it harder and then my feet dropped. I panicked for one fourth of a second but realized my waist was still strapped and attached to the bungy cord. That was the time I realized what Juan was trying to tell me earlier about releasing my feet so that I will not hang up side down while waiting for the ground crew to pull me.

yay! Logic came back! Laugh out loud.

My Love Affair

Five reasons to hate the beach: it’s hot, it’s salty, it’s sticky, it’s boring and yeah, I don’t have a ‘body beautiful’ to show off. The beach? I just didn’t like it… not at all. And I didn’t understand why my friends love it so much.

When I was still in the Philippines I heard a lot about Boracay and Palawan then when I started working abroad, I heard about Phuket, Bali and Kota Kinabalu. And Maldives, I first heard about this place about 6 years ago when my eldest cousin (from father side) got married. I was told that this place is for honeymooners. I also learned that this country is about to sink and that I must visit before it happens.

I read a lot about these beaches on how beautiful and magnificent they are. But still these places are not in my top 10 must see places before I die or even before I turn 30.

My love affair with the beach started in 2009 (December) when my friends and I traveled to Phuket over the weekend… only because we were all bored, we have literally ran out of things to do and that time we were all residing in Vietnam for work, for more than 3 years. And also thanks to Air Asia for the cheap airfare – “now everyone can fly”.

I enjoyed Phuket trip so much because of the company, my friends and I had so much fun exploring – this is our first time to see the place.

First thing we did was clubbing along Patong street. Seduction club became our favorite hang out place at nighttime.

Island hopping and snorkeling were amazing, too bad I didn't have an underwater camera that time.

Lazing around and getting burnt by the sun was sooo relaxing... and painful.

I loved it so much, I came back a month after but this time, we traveled around Thailand. First stop was Bangkok for shopping then up to Chiang Mai for jungle trek then down to Phuket.

The whole experience was unforgettable and I told everybody that Phuket is the best place to be… best beach ever (that is what I thought). Then my friends started bragging about the beaches in the Philippines. All of my friends said that I should see Boracay and Palawan then I can compare.

Three months after, I decided to travel to Palawan and it was indeed a jaw dropping experience. It’s not even comparable to Phuket. But in terms of nightlife, I will still give Phuket all thumbs up.

Over all experience, I’ll rate Palawan 9 out of 10 while Phuket is 8.

Last month, December 2010, I finally saw Maldives and it was indeed for honeymooners. I felt little sad because it would have been a great experience if it was my honeymoon. ☺ I’ll rate Maldives 8.5 out of 10 only because it’s MALDIVES!
